About Me

Hi, I’m Sharon Neff and I’m a professional copywriter trained by American Writers and Artists, Inc. (AWAI), as well as a member of their coveted Circle of Success Program for the past 10 years.

I’m also a published author, writer and blogger as well as a Customer Relations Manager for the past 22 years.   I’ve been lucky to be mentored in writing, by New York Times best selling author Iris Krasnow and further mentoring by copywriting guru Jay White.

I went to Virginia Tech for 2 years, and transferred to George Mason University, graduating with a degree in English.

Fairfax County, VA is my home – born and raised.  I love to hike, bike and walk and take advantage of the national parks in our area that are amazing to visit, to hike and to sightsee.  There’s so much history around us.  I’m an avid biker (of the Trex kind, not Harley) but either way, just being outside and riding on the Washington and Old Dominion (WO&D) trail is a perfect way to spend the day.  I have participated in many bike races around the area completing many Metric Century rides (62 miles) but my ultimate goal is to complete the Century (100 miles).

I’m a mother to three.  I have a daughter and two sons and am blessed with a son-in-law and two daughter-in-laws.  I’m a grandmother to three – almost four, our newest arriving May 2020.  The grandmother thing – well, it’s just pure joy.

Currently, I am a burgeoning pickle ball player.  It’s a hoot, it’s competitive and I’m hooked!

Creative by nature, I obviously love to write, but love to paint on canvas too.  I paint walls and trim as well – but let’s be honest…

I’m a fool for a flea market and can pick out the perfect piece and transform it into something wonderful.  I love colors and finishes and it’s always fun to take something old and breathe new life into it. My house is peppered with these creations.  Every piece has a story.  I kind of love that.

I have a little place in Bethany Beach, Delaware where my kids have grown up during the summers and worked there during their summer breaks.  After so many years, we have an established community and we all congregate on the drive-on beach where shore fishing is a must.  But it is here, where we have endless games of beach volleyball and crazy games of beach whiffle ball where parents and kids play together.  It’s quite the experience.  Our babies are now having babies and they are coming to the same beach, to the same spot and life continues on.  We feel blessed.

For over 20 years, I have volunteered for Life with Cancer, an organization in Fairfax County that helps patients and families who are dealing with cancer.  My husband volunteered with our annual fundraiser as well, until his cancer diagnosis in 2009.  In an instant, we became participants in all the services Life with Cancer offered: doctors, nurse navigators, counseling and in 2011, when that counseling switched to grief counseling.

Losing my husband rocked my world to the core in the most unimaginable ways.  But my kids insulated me, compelled me, inspired me – and yes – pushed me when I was sagging.  My book, Until it Wasn’t, Love, Loss and Finding Hope Again, was written from the journal I kept from the time of diagnosis through his passing.  It’s raw emotions, no doubt, but it spells out the process of loss, the reconciling of grief and our innate ability to start living again. Essentially, finding hope again.  It hasn’t been easy – but I’ve been grateful for possessing inherent strength that has kept me walking through the grief process.

I wrote this book to put a voice to grief so that others don’t feel so alone as they walk this path.  Grief can be intensely isolating.  My hope is that my story helps others.

As for now, I am trying to focus more on traveling, kids and grandkids.  The growing family part never gets old.  Staying creative is paramount – writing another book (in the works) and expanding my writing into other endeavors is all really exciting stuff.

And yep, I’m still a Redskins fan.  But so happy we have the Caps and the Nationals to take the sting out of remaining loyal to the Skins.  Still pining for the glory days when John Riggins (44) and The Hogs were our winning combination.

Well, a girl can dream anyway…
